Understanding Munich’s way of life also means understanding how the city comes together — over beer and Brotzeit.

Markets and Wirtshäuser have long been part of Munich’s everyday life and social culture.

This personally hosted Experience brings together Munich’s history, beer culture, food and Wirtshaus traditions — creating space for conversation, connection and a personal introduction to the city.

Understand

Munich has always told part of its story through beer.

Beer in Munich is more than a drink. It is part of the city’s social life, its craftsmanship, its traditions and its identity.

Beginning at Marienplatz, in the historic heart of Munich, we explore how the city grew, why brewing became so deeply connected with Bavarian life and what the Reinheitsgebot really meant.

Along the way, history becomes something you can see, taste and experience — over a freshly poured beer, traditional Bavarian food and conversations in places where Munich’s beer and Wirtshaus culture is still lived today.

The experience

01

Munich & its history

Meet at Marienplatz in the historic heart of Munich. Begin with a personal introduction to the city, its history and its historic old town before walking together to the first stop.

02

Beer & brewing culture

At the historic Museumsstüberl, discover Munich’s traditional brewing culture through a personally hosted introduction. Learn how a small number of simple ingredients become beer, how different beer styles reveal themselves in the glass and what distinguishes them. The visit includes a small beer tasting, a typical Bavarian accompaniment and time for another beer or a non-alcoholic alternative.

03

Through the Viktualienmarkt

Continue through the Viktualienmarkt and discover its history, traditions and importance to the city. Afterwards, stop at a selected traditional Wirtshaus for a Munich Helles or a non-alcoholic alternative with a small Bavarian accompaniment.

04

Beer tasting & classic Bavarian Brotzeit

Finish in a traditional Munich Wirtshaus with a tasting of up to five different beer styles and their individual characteristics. The culinary highlight is a generous classic Bavarian Brotzeit with selected local specialities — shared around the table, just as Munich’s Wirtshaus culture is meant to be enjoyed.
