Munich has always told part of its story through beer.

Beer in Munich is more than a drink. It is part of the city’s social life, its craftsmanship, its traditions and its identity.

Beginning at Marienplatz, in the historic heart of Munich, we explore how the city grew, why brewing became so deeply connected with Bavarian life and what the Reinheitsgebot really meant.

Along the way, history becomes something you can see, taste and experience — over a freshly poured beer, traditional Bavarian food and conversations in places where Munich’s beer and Wirtshaus culture is still lived today.

Your experience

01

Munich & its story

Meet at Marienplatz, in the historic heart of Munich. Begin with a personal introduction to the city, its history and the historic old town before walking together to the first stop.

02

From grain to glass

Step into Munich’s beer culture at the historic Museumsstüberl. Through a personal introduction to traditional Munich brewing, discover how a few simple ingredients become beer and how different beer styles reveal themselves in the glass. The visit includes a small beer tasting, a typical Bavarian accompaniment and time for another beer or a non-alcoholic alternative.

03

Through the Viktualienmarkt

Continue through the Viktualienmarkt and discover its history, traditions and some of its particularly good and well-known gastronomic addresses. Afterwards, stop at a selected traditional Wirtshaus for a Munich Helles or a non-alcoholic alternative with a small Bavarian accompaniment.

04

A final taste of Munich

Finish in a traditional Munich Wirtshaus and discover up to five different beer styles and their individual characteristics. The culinary highlight is a generous classic Bavarian Brotzeit with selected local specialities – shared around the table, just as Munich Wirtshaus culture is meant to be enjoyed.
