Starnberg Lake Experience: Lake Starnberg with the Alps, a lakeside terrace, the Buchheim Museum, regional lakeside cuisine and lakeside moments

Three perspectives on Lake Starnberg.

Lake Starnberg can be discovered in very different ways: from the water, through arts and culture, or through the history of the people who lived along its shores and helped shape it.

Which perspective becomes part of your experience is personally coordinated with you according to your interests, the season, availability and conditions at the lake.

Choose one of three perspectives

01 · From the water

Boat Trip

When conditions are suitable, we experience the lake from the water. Passing Possenhofen and Rose Island, the landscape and Alpine panorama become intertwined with the stories of Empress Elisabeth, King Ludwig II and the Bavarian royal family.

02 · Art & Culture

Buchheim Museum

At the Buchheim Museum, we discover a very different side of Lake Starnberg. Important works of German Expressionism, the museum's distinctive architecture and its setting directly on the lake bring together art, culture and landscape.

03 · History & Way of Life

Museum Starnberger See

At the Museum Starnberger See, the focus turns to the history of the lake itself — from royal boating traditions and the lives of local fishermen to its development as a centre of social life and recreation just beyond Munich.

Munich and Lake Starnberg belong together.

Just a few kilometres south of the city begins a landscape that has long shaped life in Munich. Lake Starnberg was a retreat for the Bavarian royal family, a destination for Munich's traditional summer escapes and a setting for social life. To this day, people regularly leave the city behind for its shores.

But there is more to the lake than its landscape. Bavarian history, leisure culture, cuisine and proximity to the Alps come together here in a way that reveals much about the character and way of life of the region.

We bring these connections to life personally — with time by the lake, stories of the people and events that have shaped it, and a shared dinner in a typical regional restaurant to conclude the day.

Your Experience

01

From Munich to the Lake

We pick you up personally from your hotel in Munich and travel together to Lake Starnberg.

Along the way, we introduce you to the region and the distinctive role the lake has played for Munich and its residents for generations.

02

Time by the Lake

Once we arrive, we take time to enjoy the setting and atmosphere of the lake.

Over a light refreshment and a drink, we take in the view and ease into the next part of the day. Time to arrive, to talk and to appreciate what makes this place special.

03

Your Perspective on the Lake

We then discover Lake Starnberg from the perspective selected with you in advance — on a boat trip across the lake, at the Buchheim Museum or at the Museum Starnberger See.

Each offers a different way of understanding the landscape, culture and history of the region. Which one becomes part of your experience is coordinated with you during the personal preparation of your day.

04

Dinner by the Lake

To conclude the day, we travel to a selected restaurant by the lake that reflects the cuisine and hospitality of the region.

Over a three-course dinner with starter, main course and dessert, accompanied by a selection of beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks, we bring the day to a relaxed close. A digestif and coffee are also included at the end of dinner.

Afterwards, we personally take you back to your hotel in Munich.

“No two days at Lake Starnberg are quite the same. We personally curate your experience around the season, the weather and the conditions on the lake.”
